What Does A Dorn Method Or A Breuss Massage Therapy Session Involve?

Some people might feel apprehensive about Therapy that involves working on their Spine and Joints; however, when The Dorn Method is carried out correctly, it is very gentle and safe. In fact there have been no reported cases of injury in its long history.

Dorn Method Leg Length Check

Dorn therapy begins with checking Leg Length. A very high percentage of people suffering from Back pain exhibit a difference in the length of their legs; however, this is often not due to a physical discrepancy in leg length, but rather a result from poor joint seating in the hips.

This misalignment can lead to Pelvic imbalance, potentially causing an asymmetrical, crooked, or displaced Spinal column. If necessary, gentle techniques are used to correct these imbalances, which might also involve working on the knee and ankle joints. Next, the Pelvis is checked for any misalignment, and corrections are made. Subsequently, the Vertebrae of the back - lumbar, thoracic, and cervical - are checked and corrected as needed.

All corrections are performed dynamically, with the client actively assisting the Dorn therapist by swinging their leg, arm, or gently moving their head from side-to-side, depending on the area being treated, to generate muscle movement or 'distraction'.

This active participation by the client facilitates the joints moving back into their correct positions with ease, without the need for excessive force, thereby making Dorn a very safe and gentle treatment.

The Dorn Method therapy session can be combined with a Spinal Back Massage known as the Breuss Massage.

This is a very gentle massage that safely stretches, nourishes, aligns, and energizes the Back. Herbal oil such a St John’s Wort is applied to massage into and around the Spine, helping to expand the discs, thereby increasing the distance between the vertebrae and enhancing flexibility.

This sensitive pressure technique not only alleviates pain but also relaxes Back Muscles, regains Spinal mobility, and improves blood circulation. If the person is very tense, the therapy session might start with a Breuss massage, but typically, the massage is performed afterwards to further stretch and nourish the Spine.
